Privacy Policy

CourtMap ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights under New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020.

1. Information We Collect

2. How We Use Your Information

To operate the CourtMap service and enable players to connect.
To display your profile, requests, and reviews to other users.
To deliver in-app messages between users.
To improve the service and diagnose issues.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your information for advertising.

3. What Is Visible to Other Users

Always visible: Your display name, profile photo, skill level, bio, and reviews.
Visible on requests: Your name, photo, skill tags, preferred days and times, play type, and any message you write.
Only shared when you choose: Email address or phone number (controlled via your profile settings).
Never visible: Your full Google account details, internal user ID, or any data not listed above.

4. Third-Party Services

CourtMap uses the following third-party services to operate:

Google Firebase — authentication, database (Firestore), and hosting. Subject to Google's privacy policy.
Google Maps & Places API — club discovery and map display. Subject to Google's privacy policy.
Google Sign-In — account authentication. We receive only your name, email, and profile photo.

We do not use advertising networks, social media tracking pixels, or third-party analytics tools.

5. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored in Google Firebase (Firestore), hosted in data centres compliant with ISO 27001 and SOC 2 standards. Data in transit is encrypted via HTTPS. Access to user data is restricted to the authenticated user and the CourtMap service.

6. Data Retention

Partner requests expire automatically after 14 days or when you delete them.
Messages are retained until you or the other participant deletes the conversation.
Your profile and reviews are retained while your account is active.
You may request full deletion of your account and data at any time (see section 8).

7. Cookies & Local Storage

CourtMap does not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies. We use browser localStorage solely to remember your UI preferences (e.g. whether you have dismissed the install banner). Firebase may use limited technical cookies required for authentication and service operation.

8. Your Rights (NZ Privacy Act 2020)

You have the right to:

Access the personal information we hold about you.
Correct any inaccurate information.
Request deletion of your account and all associated data.
Withdraw consent for data processing (which will require account deletion).
Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner if you believe your privacy rights have been breached.

9. Children's Privacy

CourtMap is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes via the app. Continued use of CourtMap after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
